Girls in Nixa Offer Free Prom Dresses To Those in Need

For many girls prom means dinner, dancing and a great night with friends.

However, for parents, it could mean a really big price tag.

But some high school students in nixa are doing what they can to change that and make sure everyone can enjoy one of the biggest social events of the year for teens.

KOLR10's Mike Corcoran is live in Nixa this morning with these generous young girls.

Mike:  Rob we've got everything from sequined to strapless.  I even found a wedding dress available.  A hundred dresses on display and available to girls in need in Nixa and they are hoping that number grows today with a prom dress collection.

Joining me now are the three girls responsible for the event: Kailey Martin, Katie Parker and Torree Kostreba.
Torree, explain your program for us.

Torree:  Today is donation day.  Any girl can come by from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and drop off dresses, in good condition.  And then tomorrow (Sat. March 5) from 1:00 to 5:00 pm is pick-up day.  Any girl can come and get any of these dresses.

Mike- What made you want to do an event like this?

Torree:  Well, Kailey read in a magazine that there is an organization that basically does the same thing - they donated dresses and sent them to girls in need.  And we thought we could do the same thing here for our community for any of the girls around here who needed dresses for prom.

Mike - For someone who has a dress in their attic right now, can they just bring it down - do they need any forms, any paperwork?

Torree - Just drop off the dress in good condition, we'll put it up on the rack and then a girl can come tomorrow and pick it up.

Mike - As far as tomorrow goes, how does a girl qualify for a dress?  Are there any qualifications?  How do you apply for a dress?

Torree - No, we're on the honor system.  If you say you need a dress, you can come here and pick one out.
